Elvis Presley
Elvis Aaron Presley, later known as "The King" was born January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a two-room house. For one of Elvis's birthday's, and keep in mind that this was a poor family at the time, his mother got him his first guitar at a hardware shop in Tupelo. After getting the guitar and teaching himself how to play it, along with piano and singing he entered his first singing competition when he was 10 years old. His dad had many jobs to support the three of them, so when they packed up and moved to Memphis, Tennessee, that was no suprise to the family. He attended high school there, in Memphis, and graduated in 1953. Straight out of high school he signed on with Sun Records label in Memphis and started his huge singing career.
But strangely in between his career and everything he still found time to serve his country so in January of 1958 he joined the United States Army. He spent two years in the Army and most of the time he was enlisted he was serving in different parts of Germany. While Elvis was stil in Germany he met his future wife, Priscilla, there little did he know. Once he got back home he started his music business back up. In 1967 he and Priscilla got married, and about one year later they had Lisa Marie, their daughter, and even with that he was still singing. He eventually sold over one billion records, which is more than any other artist, he was in 33 films, and at the age of 36 years old he recieved 14 Grammy nominations for his records. He was hospitalized many times do to too much drug use after and even before Priscilla got a divorce from him and took Lisa Marie with her. At the age of 42, after six years of being in and out of the hospital he died on August 16, 1977 do to drug related heart problems.

Elvis was named One of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation by the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1971. According to The Christian Science Monitor, right after "The King" got to Germany he was heard saying, "What we do here will reflect America and our way of life." So he had the idea that anyone can make a good impact on our country. Elvis's character was well played as one of the most well known role model's in music history, with his time serving in the Army and meeting important people all around the world.
