Ellen Johnson Sirleaf grew up in Liberia and attended high school in Africa. She went to college at three different universities such as Madison Business College, University of Colorado, and Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. Harvard was where she was awarded a Master's Degree in Public Administration in 1971. But before that Ellen joined the Treasury Department of Liberia in 1965 then in 1979 was rewarded in being the Minister of Finance. She then became the President of the Liberian Bank for Development and Investment but fled to Kenya and because the Vice President of CITICORP's Africa Regional Office. Ellen moved to Washington D.C. to serve at the World Bank as a Loan Officer, then was a Vice President at Equator Bank. She joined the United Nations Development Programme to become an Assistant Administrator in 1992 as well as became the Director of its Regional Bureau of Africa. In that she was ranked as the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations. Now Ellen is the President of Liberia and is the first elected female Head of State in Africa. Within her job Ellen is respectfully acknowledged as the President of Liberia.
Before she went into office as a President, Ellen traveled to different countries for education and work such as Kenya, The United States and of course Liberia (her home country).
